John Hunter with the commemorative plaques at the tower. 2026
Update
In May 2026, on the 10 year anniversary of the creation of the Stonehouse History Group plaque, John Hunter sent a message to Lin Webb as below.
Hello Lin!
Today we celebrated the 110 anniversary of the British Clock Tower.
As always fond memories of Darrell and all the work he put in to linking Stonehouse with the tower here in Buenos Aires!
Plaque still in place.
Both well, thanks. Who knows maybe at a next trip to England we can visit Stonehouse again. We always remember the nice restaurant you took us to for dinner!
On May 8th 2019 we were delighted to welcome John Hunter and his wife Florentina to our History Group meeting.
In 2016 John Hunter was Chairman of the Argentine British Community Council. He helped Darrell Webb to organise the creation of the plaque that we sent to Buenos Aires to commemorate the centenary of the building of the Torre Monumental (known as Torre de los Ingleses or The English Tower) using bricks made by Stonehouse Brick and Tile Co.Ltd.

When John and his wife decided to visit England he contacted us to arrange a visit to Stonehouse. Lin Webb met them and brought them to our meeting where they were made very welcome.
On the following day John visited the Town Hall to see the Stonehouse brick which was presented to Boris Johnson on his visit to the Tower in 2018. The brick was donated to Stonehouse History Group and is now on display at the Town Hall.
